The Birth of Jared and Nicole

This picture was taken just before heading off to the hospital. Sandy has a 48 3/4 inch waist.

When we called for the results of some tests taken on Saturday, the hospital asked Sandy to come in so they could check her blood pressure. We figured this may be our last chance to take a pregnant picture of her at home.

Pretty soon after we arrived, they decided to induce labor. Sandy was showing the beginning signs of preeclampsia, and the twins were considered full term, so it was an easy decision.

This is the labor room where she stayed until she was fully dilated. Most births are actually done in this room. Since twins are considered a high risk, she was moved to an operating room for the final delivery, just in case an emergency C-section was needed.

Around 3:30 p.m., they gave her pitocin to induce labor.

She kicked back watching Home Alone 2, Oh God Book 2, Indiana Jones The Last Crusade, and surfed through a few other shows.

Around 9:00 p.m. she got an epidural, and proceeded to sleep through most the rest of her dilation. Due to the fact that she was carrying twins, the doctors strongly recommended an epidural. (Note: If an emergency c-section was needed, the procedure would go much smoother with an epidural.)

Our last picture without kids. Sandy is fully dilated, and about ready to head into the operating room, which is why I had to dress up in scrubs.

Sandy is kicking back in pretty good spirits.

In between the two deliveries Sandy was heard saying "That wasn't so bad, I can deal with this".

Sandy compared giving birth to being constipated with a boulder. She also mentioned that it was not as difficult as the 17 mile hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon that we took a few years back.

Compare Sandy's stomach in this picture to the one at the top of the page.

Everything went pretty smoothly and both babies were delivered naturally.

Our doctors assure us that it is only twins, but from the looks of this picture we were not so sure, she may still have another one in there!!!
